Thelma and Mars

Two Jewish Women and a Doggie

On Election Day, it was such a beautiful day that we just had to go down to Squirrel Hill and plant some seeds. We did not realize how many Jewish people that we would have the opportunity to speak with. The Jewish Community Center (JCC) was the polling place for Squirrel Hill and it happened to be right down the street from us. That meant that we had a tremendous amount of traffic walking past us. As I always say, Thelma is the best evangelist I know due to her infectious personality. As usual that means many stories to write. My favorite story on that Election Day by far was when Mars walked by. You see Mars is an adorable dog who wanted to meet Thelma, my wonderful puppy. Needless to say, they hit it off. With that being said, since Mars and Thelma wanted to play, I was able to start a conversation with an Orthodox Jewish woman named Chokma (a Hebrew name meaning wisdom). She was extremely sweet and seemed very open about discussing Jesus while our dogs were intently playing with each other. Chokma was on her way to vote, up the street at the JCC. After explaining to her how a nice Jewish boy from Brooklyn came to discover that Jesus was his Messiah, she took one of our tracts of my testimony (No Thanks, I’m Jewish) and my card, before Chokma and Mars went on their way to cast their vote (sans Mars).

Chokma and her dog Mars.

A few minutes later Mars came back with Rachel, a friend of Chokma’s, to continue playing with Thelma. Again as the two dogs enjoyed playing, I was able to have another conversation—with Rachel this time—about Jesus and how I came to know Him. Rachel also took the tract of my testimony which she promised to read. After speaking to Rachel for about ten minutes, Chokma came back from voting and the two very open Jewish women went on their way.

I would like to thank Thelma for being such a great missionary and so irresistible to everyone who walks by us in Squirrel Hill.

Please pray for Chokma and Rachel and the many others that we spoke to on that glorious Election Day that GOD blessed!

Amen and Shalom to all!

Rachel brought Mars back to play.
